I recently read that 45% of Americans will make a New Year’s resolution this year, while only 8% of folks will actually achieve that resolution. Those are not great odds.

I also recently read Ephesians 4:11-12 where it says, “Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.”

In other words, Jesus gave pastors and leaders as a gift to help other people discover how they can make a greater impact in the world. So below are 12 things I’ve started analyzing in my own life each month, and I hope they can help you as much as they’ve helped me.

Before I list those, though, let me offer you this encouragement: The people who tell you something is impossible, are probably the same people who tried, failed, and didn’t learn. Don’t listen to them. Listen to those who have tried, failed, and still say, “Anything is possible.” Listen to those who say, “Yes, but...here’s what I’ve learned.” Listen to those who are cautiously optimistic.

Listen to those who speak like Paul does in Philippians 3 when he says, “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
